Pixel Pots
This line of work materialized in the interim between the Assemblage Vessel and Shadow Vessel series. In order to make the Assemblage Vessels even possible, I needed a way to make molds that had precision beyond the human hand. As I developed the mother mold for that series, which utilized CNC cut plastic, the whole 3d Printing revolution was taking place, where the technology began to become within reach to the average consumer, AKA me. So, I wanted to really learn the programs, the mold processes, and what is possible, in order to make the next generation of the assemblage vessels. This detour ended up becoming a destination, and the result are the pixel pot series.
This pixel pots have been designed for ultimate functionality. They are meant to be daily drinkers. They can go in the dishwasher every day. They have simple forms to allow a spectacular surface take center stage. They are a celebration of a glaze I developed for the Cut-aparts, showing off its clarity, its resin-like gloss, and its glorious surface tension that gathers it into the recesses and away from the protrusions. I plan to resume selling these directly, but if you want one right this minute, they are available at Red Lodge Clay Center, the Archie Bray Foundation, Baltimore Clayworks, and Abel Contemporary.
